Boca
Grande is known as the Tarpon Capital of the World
Welcome to Boca Grande, Florida for
the world's finest and greatest Tarpon, as well as
Florida's best small fishing. Throughout most of the
year trout, redfish, snook, sheepshead, snapper, and
great bottom fishing are at our fingertips. During
March and April, the migrating fish (mackerel, pompano,
kingfish etc.) can be caught easily as they pass north.
A southerly migration of the same takes place in September,
October, and November.
TARPON start hitting in April and lasts through July
and even later. Tarpon fishing is a short fifteen
minute boat trip from the dock to Boca Grande Pass
near the south shoreline of the island. On a full
day's charter, during normal weather conditions and
patterns, an angler can expect to catch two to four
tarpon a day weighing an average of 100 pounds. If
you miss the main tarpon run you can catch smaller
40lb. class tarpon in late summer and on throughout
the fall, continuing up to the first cold snap.
"TRADITIONAL" Boca Grande tarpon fishing
is done by two anglers fishing at the same time from
fighting chairs with live bait while drifting along
the tidal currents of Boca Grande Pass. Fishing times
are determined by the tides and feeding habits of
the mighty "Silver King." Fishing continues
from the predawn hours through sunrise and then sunset
on into the night hours. When not chasing trophy fish,
marvel at the vast panorama until it is time to return
to the Hotel and anticipate the next day.
Tarpon Fishing in Boca Grande is one of the most exhilarating
experiences of a lifetime. Nowhere else on earth is
there such a concentrated field - and large ones at
that. The tarpon in Boca Grande Pass average 85lbs,
but 200lb fish are landed here as well.
From the novice to the professional sports fisherman,
anyone can catch a mighty "Silver King"
in Boca Grande Pass. It is the experience of the Captain
that makes the difference.
